Two Sisters: Lasting Legacies of Ruth Nelson & Gwe

1 Tennyson St, Napier

The story of two visionary sisters, whose dedication, generosity and lifelong love of art has left a lasting impression on the Hawke’s Bay region.

Their purchase of Kereru Station in 1946 enabled them to establish and support a range of local causes and organisations, and the charitable trusts they created continue their legacy of giving. Creative from childhood, this exhibition features carvings by Ruth Nelson and paintings by Gwen Malden (née Nelson), along with photographs and stories of their extraordinary lives and achievements.
