Although it can be driven in four to five hours, it is suggested that to enjoy the scenery and the wonderful views from the many vantage points a more leisurely approach could be taken and the Trail broken up into smaller sections.
Care should be taken on the few gravel sections on Mangleton Road. For outstanding panoramas Whakapirau Road and Salisbury Road are recommended circuits.
