Please bring your own bucket, pot, bags
We only ask that people line up between the cones and wait to be served,
We are planning this to be a fortnightly trip on Tuesdays, same time same place. We wont be able to do public holidays however and its all dependent on the weather and the fish that is caught, we aren't guaranteed on quantity or type, and people just get given whatever we have, so quantities may very week to week gain based on what is caught and what we can acquire, but we do our best to ensure we can keep the same quantities each week. We will always try to find a postponement day rather than a cancellation wherever possible.
Sometime we have to postpone days due to fish supplies.
We would love for you to share this and help us spread the word.
Events are subject to change, due to weather and fish availability.
What is The Kai Ika Project?
In December last year, the Kai Ika Project expanded to the mighty Hawke’s Bay, bringing our kaupapa of sharing kai and reducing waste to the local community. Since the launch, we’ve proudly shared over 2000kg of fish heads and frames, ensuring these precious parts of the fish reach those who value and cherish them.
Our fresh kaimoana comes from Saltwater Seafoods in Hastings. These fish heads and frames still have plenty of nourishment and tasty meat on them, transforming what might otherwise go to waste into a valuable resource for the community.
Getting the Kai Ika Project off the ground in Hawke’s Bay has been a team effort. Thanks to the support of Sustainable Hawke’s Bay, LegaSea Hawkes Bay, and our dedicated group of volunteers, we’ve made a real impact. Together, we’ve distributed kai to communities in Flaxmere, Hastings, and as far as the Mahia Peninsula.
Looking Ahead
This year, we have expand our distribution network to include Wairoa and look into a possible distribution in Napier, sharing even more fish heads and frames with those who love and appreciate this delicacy.
